New Issues Bite The NYC Bedbug Painful Scene

Well, THERE BACK AGAIN, as total in this recent article on bedbugs. NYC is among the top but many cities that again are battling the pests in hotels, movie theaters, opera houses, public places just to name a few. The bite of the bedbug is almost not felt as many people describe. Some can bite for up to 15 minutes without feeling a thing. But the results of the bite can lead to weeks and months of painful scratching, itching and rash like conditions. One bite can turn into a massive painful several inches in diameter red scare type area.

The blood of the bite is ingested into the creature which is normally a brown paper bag color, then turning rust red colour. That is how most professional exterminators can tell how long it has been since the beg has eaten human blood. The epidemic has spread all over the United States at this point, showing up in almost every state at this point. Researchers have conclude that the spread is caused by many factors. Older mattresses have become most of the blame, the mattresses are often transported in trucks with newer mattresses to "reconditioning" locations that also have been reported to have the infestation.

A mattress can hold the nasty pest for up to a year before the bedbug needs to feed again, some researchers say even longer. The painful bite often oozes blood and some say it is 10 times worse than just having cockroaches. The epidemic also has created forums, studies, and even a "bedbug summit" was held to address the issue. Hotels are scrambling to "clean" their rooms and have already begun the lawsuit battles with their customers. Some sprays work a little, but most exterminators say only professionals should be hired to combat the problem, because if one little bug or egg is left after the spray, the problem still persists. The human blood can sustain the bedbugs again for over a year. New York City officials say it is killing tourism at NYC hotels and the nocturnal pests are also killing the theater, opera, and Broadway show sales and volume.

It is encouraged that everyone be aware of the bedbug NYC issue, so other cities in America can find solutions to the red rust nocturnal parasites that spread like wildfire. How to keep from getting the painful bite and kill the nasty little creatures, the "bedbug summit" has plenty of solutions beyond bedding sprays and mattress covers. Do your own research is part of the answer as the bedbugs spread. New York City has many solutions, but many people think this may only be the beginning. Stay Tuned America.

Tiny blood-sucking bedbugs have become an epidemic in New York City. The little pests have invaded even the cleanest and most expensive apartments in neighborhoods around New York. In fact, a councilwoman from the Upper West Side has called for a citywide bedbug task force to address the problem.

What Are Bedbugs?
A bedbug is a wingless, rust-colored insect about the size of an apple seed. Bedbugs are nocturnal parasites, which means they rest during the day and come out to dine on the blood of humans at night. Bedbugs are attracted by human body heat and typically favor feasting on our shoulders and arms (ewww).

During feeding, the bedbug's proboscis pierces the skin of its victim, injecting bedbug saliva (double ewww). Bedbugs typically feed for five to ten minutes at a time. As the little critter fills with blood, its colouring changes from light brown to rust–red.

Do You Have Bedbugs?
Bedbugs hide in cracks and crevices. They love to live in bedding and on mattresses, where they have easy access to food (i.e. you). Other living areas favored by bedbugs include:

* Between wooden floorboards
* In wall cracks and crevices
* In carpeting
* In the seams and cracks of furniture, particularly bed frames
* Under loose edges of wallpaper
* Behind peeling paint

Bedbug Bites
Bedbugs are rarely seen in action by their human victims. The first signs of a bedbug infestation are usually bites. Bedbug bites are generally painless, though itchy and annoying. They tend to start as swollen wheals, then fade to red marks and gradually disappear over a few days.

Experts suggest washing bedbug bites with antiseptic soap to avoid infection. The itching can be treated with calamine lotion or anaesthetic creams.

Aside from those nasty bites, other signs that bedbugs may have moved in include:

* Tiny bloodstains from crushed bugs on sheets or mattresses
* Dark spots of bug excrement on bedding or walls
* An offensive musty odor when infestations are severe

How Bedbugs Spread
Bedbugs often spread by hitching rides on people's clothing. They jump from host to host when people brush up against each other in crowds (yet another reason to keep your distance on the subway).

They also spread through mattresses. Reconditioned mattresses, which are refurbished old mattresses, often spread bedbugs into stores and homes. In addition, bedbugs can spread when old and new mattresses are transported in the same truck.

Experts say bedbugs have been all but dormant for decades. The recent comeback is said to be primarily the result of increased global travel, along with the banning of potent pesticides like DDT.

Getting Rid of Bedbugs
Getting rid of bedbugs can be tricky. In proper conditions, adult bedbugs can survive without a meal for a year or longer. However, these annoying pests can be eliminated, usually with the help of a professional exterminator.

Here are some do-it-yourself methods you can try before you call the exterminator:

* Thoroughly wash, vacuum or clean all surfaces and bedding.
* Wash or dry-clean bedding and affected clothing. Use hot water and a dryer on the hottest setting whenever possible.
* Vacuum mattresses, seal them in plastic and leave them outside in the hot sun for as long as possible.
* Steam clean carpets.
* Spray cracks and crevices with an insecticide designed to control bedbugs. Follow the label directions carefully. Do not treat bedding with insecticide.

If these methods don't work, it may be necessary to hire a professional. A qualified exterminator can use stronger insecticides to kill the bedbugs. Repeat visits may be necessary to ensure that all bedbugs are eliminated.

EPA holding conference on bed bugs as infestations rise
Posted: 10:51 AM ET
(CNN) — No matter the old adage, not letting the bed bugs bite is a more serious undertaking now that the parasites appear to be making a comeback.

“They’re an old scourge” and they’ve been around for years, said Dale Kemery, a spokesman for the Environmental Protection Agency. “We thought we had eradicated them.”

A growing number of complaints about the reddish-brown insects prompted the EPA to hold its first bed bug conference on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“The conference was convened to look at what the problem is,” Kemery said. He said about 230 people, including academics, EPA employees and exterminators were attending the conference in Arlington, Virginia.

The big problem of the tiny bed bug — a nocturnal, oval-shaped bloodsucker measuring about 5 millimeters long (.19 inches) — has recently become more prevalent in the United States, according to Kemery and an April article in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The scene begins with a mattress factory, the beds are being build piece by piece, stitching machines cranking out the beds. The visualization starts at the beginning of the process, following a premium mattress version moving throught the noisy factory. A pillowtop design with extra fancy stitching and artistic embellishments. (some really cool song screams out through this scene).

Then the beautiful new mattresses are shrink wrapped in a heavy durable plastic and labeled with the stringent UL certification bolded printed on the labels. The finest mattress money can buy, but there was one problem. A tiny nest of fresh bedbug eggs was scattered throughout the factory in the bats of cotton from the source they had come from. All these mattresses were shipped all over North America and also shipped abroad around the world. This scenero really happened several years ago to one of he major players in the bedding industry. Now every state has been plagued by these monster creatures, but there is also another catch.

Early in the process, a form of DDT was used in the steramine process that also had come from a faulty source that had cause a nuclear holacaust effect, the small bed bugs were now the size of bowling balls and the larger ones were up to the size of a Volkswagon Beetle. It is really like a scene from "The Revenge of the Killer Tomatoes".

There was a story on television last year where they were going undercover in NYC, finding sellers of “reconditioned” mattresses where, the entire mattress was to be overhauled and reassebled with complete new cotton and mess and all new surfaces. What the report revealed was that the company that was doing the reconditioning were only recovering the mattresses with new fabric and leaving the old bedbug ridden mattress full of live bedbugs and eggs ready to be hatched. The average life of a bedbud could be several years, and the hungry bugs can live in dormancy for over 18 months without moving or feeding. Bedbugs only feed on human blood, unlike other creatures that eat a wide variety of food, skin or liquids, bedbugs have survived like cockroaches since literally the begining of the human race. At this time in America they are literally in epic porportions. Every state reports of current bedbug epidemics. No one, home, hotel room, cars, are exempt. The bedbug itself remain in an isolated “coma” if you may until they smell the carbon monozide of the human while they are sleeping and wait to pounce when a person is totally unsuspecting.
